Dr. Alan M. Gibbs
Dr. Gibbs received his dental degree (D.D.S.) from New York University in 1979 and ventured uptown to Columbia University for his Certificate in Orthodontics which he received in 1981. Dr. Gibbs soon returned to Long Island to start his own practice.
In addition to running a thriving orthodontic practice, Dr. Gibbs remains active in hospitals and universities on Long Island and in New York City, particularly in the research and teaching the treatment of cleft palates. He was the first orthodontist to receive an appointment to the Department of Plastic Surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was an Assistant Clinical Professor. Formerly as the lead orthodontist on the Mt. Sinai Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Team, he coordinated treatment of newborn infants with craniofacial defects. He was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dentistry at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and an Assistant Attending Dentist in the dental department.
Dr. Gibbs also works at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he is on the Cleft Palate Team and serves as an Attending Orthodontist at the hospital’s Department of Dentistry where he teaches in the Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment section.
Dr. Gibbs has lectured extensively on the treatment of Cleft Palate Neonates. He is a member of the American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association, The American Association of Orthodontics, and the Sleep Disorders Dental Society. Formerly, he was on the Board of Directors of the New York State Federation of Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Centers.
Heather LaLonde is our Orthodontic Assistant. She started with Dr. Gibbs 4 years ago (after14 years’ experience elseware) and has become invaluable to him. She is Dr. Gibbs’ most able assistant / right hand women and most importantly works wonderfully with the patients. She is adept at dealing with even the smallest patient’s concerns about appliance care and is a champion of home dental hygiene. She resides in Patchogue, with her 2 children.
Kelly Brown is our Office Manager and as such lords over the office. Starting out as an orthodontic assistant and then moving rapidly into the office manager role she is the one responsible for the smooth operation of the office. Kelly takes care of all patient finances and insurance, and can decipher most insurance questions you have. She has been with Dr. Gibbs for 24 years. Kelly graduated Suma Cum Laude from C.W. Post in 1995, with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Her psychology background and her rapport with people make her a valuable asset to the office. Kelly resides in Medford with her husband and 3 daughters.
Sue Hazelwood joined Dr. Gibbs’ staff as the front desk manager 9 years ago. A former patient, Sue takes care of all appointment scheduling and is the world champion of schedule conflict resolution. You will find Sue cheerfully greeting you when you first arrive, always willing to help you with a smile. Sue received a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University in the School of Nursing, and she practiced as a nurse until the birth of her daughter. Sue resides in Huntington, with her husband.
